CORNERSTONE TEAM
Michael G. Soriano, AIA, serves as Project Director at Cornerstone Architectural Group, where he has worked since 1987 and brings experience in the industry dating back to 1977. His work spans diverse project types including corporate, commercial, industrial, warehouse, healthcare, educational, ecumenical, mixed-use, and civic facilities. Michael’s breadth of experience reflects both his versatility and deep sector knowledge.
Michael adds great value during conceptual design, where his ability to synthesize information and problem-solve helps clients navigate pre-design analysis, building programming, and facilities master planning. This early-stage work sets the foundation for successful projects by bringing clarity to complex challenges and establishing clear direction before detailed design begins. His approach combines analytical thinking with creative solutions, ensuring that each project responds thoughtfully to client needs and site conditions.
What started as a childhood interest in designing buildings sparked a professional dedication to positively contribute to the built environment. Among his notable projects are the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, Carteret Board of Education's Nathan Hale School, Congregation B'nai Tikvah, AAA Care Center, Kendall Park First Aid Squad, and a range of industrial and corporate facilities including Alex Toys, Horiba Scientific, OnTel Products, Cotton Valley Warehouse, Prologis-FedEx, Round Valley Branch YMCA, and the Oishii Vertical Farm. These projects demonstrate his capacity to work across sectors while maintaining focus on functional, well-planned solutions that serve their intended communities and users.
Reflecting his dedication to advancing the profession, Michael is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) at national, state, and local levels. He served as Chair of the Government Affairs Committee for AIA New Jersey. He was also appointed by the governor to the New Jersey State Board of Architects, where he served as Past President.
Michael maintains a lifelong commitment to altruistic volunteerism, community service, and mentoring beyond his professional activities. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and the National Board of Directors for the YMCA of the USA, receiving recognition as YMCA Volunteer of the Year in 2003 and National Multiple Sclerosis Society Volunteer of the Year in 2005 and 2007.
