This was phase two of a project for the Township of Springfield with the goal of creating a new larger senior center and a recreation building from the former Chisholm School. The project included: renovating the existing gym and restrooms, creating a party room and recreation offices, and converting the existing classrooms into a game room, meeting room, and a yoga room.
The challenge with this project was the age of the existing building. This former school built in the early 1900's predated any accessibility requirements. There was no space, budget, or code requirement for an elevator. Instead, the project included several accessible toilet rooms and a toilet room renovation to make the project more accessible.
