The Fanwood–Scotch Plains YMCA project was a multi-phase expansion and renovation designed to significantly enhance community wellness and recreational offerings. The work included interior alterations to the existing facility, highlighted by a new 1,937-square-foot wellness center exercise mezzanine, along with major new construction additions such as a 25,332-square-foot, two-story natatorium, child care and classroom/office spaces, and a 8,265-square-foot gymnastics gym. Upon completion of all phases, the complex will totalled 76,456 square feet of program space, supported by expanded parking and basement storage.
The project was delivered through a five-phase, multi-year construction campaign guided by an approved master plan. Each phase was implemented sequentially and funded through a dedicated capital improvement fundraising process, allowing the facility to remain operational while improvements were completed. The The Wellness Center Mezzanine addition was constructed within the volume of an existing, older gymnasium and completed in just eight weeks during a summer shutdown period. The accelerated schedule was achieved through the use of pre-engineered systems and readily available components, minimizing disruption while delivering a high-quality, efficient build.
