After decades of enduring sub-standard working
conditions in a converted 1960’s split level
residence and a series of trailers, the Mendham
Township Police have finally found a permanent
home at 4 West Main Street in Historic Brookside.
Designed to fit within the fabric of the historic
Brookside neighborhood, the new ground-up
two-story building brings the police under one roof
and features a Sally Port, processing area, holding
room, evidence storage, armory, and archives as
well as offices, meeting rooms, and a locker room.
The challenge with this project was the age of the existing building. This former school built in the early 1900's predated any accessibility requirements. There was no space, budget, or code requirement for an elevator. Instead, the project included several accessible toilet rooms and a toilet room renovation to make the project more accessible.
